Ambient temperature, heat generated during a hard run, spool diameter as line leaves a reel — all these variables can affect a reel’s drag. Each might change your drag only slightly, but their combined effects can quickly compound.

Shimano Waxwing Lures
Speed, distance, and power are all important factors in saltwater lure casting. Releasing the lure from the hook-keeper, sliding your way to the bow in 4 foot seas, going 30 knots into a head wind while facing an acre of breaking jumbos in front of you – this is Tuna fishing today. Yes, we are crazy, and no, we don’t skydive. It’s too dangerous. This is the Waxwing mentality.

G Loomist IMX® SURF Series Rod
The new IMX® SURF Series are extremely powerful, high-modulus, light weight spinning rods designed specifically for the long-range casts required to successfully fish the surf. They have smaller diameters that create less air-resistance during the casting stroke, with faster actions, creating tremendous tip-speed to virtually launch lures into the next time zone and enough power to handle stripers, blues, sierras, roosters, big drum and cobia.

Sufix Duraflex Monofilament Line
My first impression of this new-for-2009 reel line is very good indeed. The diameter for strength ratio is excellent, outstanding in fact. It’s limp, smooth, and Steve Ringer who has been testing it tell me he is highly impressed with its durability too.
