Ambon Deep Sea Fishing Spots
Ambon is famous for its big yellowfin tuna. Deep water is close wherever you fish, and dropoffs and canyons are within a stone’s throw of shore. Commercial operations are numerous, and the locals traditionally handline for tuna.
Sportfishing is largely confined to trolling large floating and diving minnow-style plugs for yellowfin tuna, but also available are dogtooth tuna, giant trevally, narrowbarred mackerel, and wahoo. Big black marlin and blue marlin must surely be available, but only a few charter operations exist, and these are restricted to longboats with outboard motors for strictly inshore work.
Although anglers fishing takes place year-round, the catch is likely to be best in October, November, April, and May—before and after the rainy season.
