The Best Fishing Lures

These lures might not be the latest and greatest, and they don't have all the bells and whistles of some of the most recent products, but their fish catching ability cannot be denied. Most of them were amazing innovations in lure design when they were invented, and all of them have stood the test of time by catching countless fish for anglers every year. Every angler should have at least one of each of these in their tackle box.

Dardevle

#

The Dardevle is a lure that has come to be an icon of fishing in the North. This spoon was originally released in 1912 as the Osprey, but the name was changed to Dardevle in 1918. It is a versatile spoon that can be used for a variety of species, but is especially popular for northern pike.

Original Rapala

In the 1930's, Lauri Rapala was fishing from a row boat in Finland's Lake Paijanne when he observed that predator fish always attacked the baitfish that swam with a slightly off-center wobble compared to the rest of the school. He carved a lure that imitated this action, and caught ton of fish with it. This lure eventually became the Original Rapala, and can be found in almost every angler's tackle box.

Mepps Aglia

#
The Mepps Aglia is an inline spinner that has been around for a long time and has caught just every species under the sun. It's available in an array of colors and sizes that cover everything from tiny panfish to giant muskies. Its ease of use and effectiveness has made it a staple lure for many anglers.

Hula Popper

#
First introduce over 60 years ago, the Abrogast Hula Popper is a staple in every bass angler's tackle box. This simple yet effective lure is gently tugged on the surface of the water, creating a popping sound. It can be one of the most exciting lures to use, as anglers wait in anticipation of a big bass breaking the surface to engulf the lure.

Senko

The Senko is essentially a tailless soft plastic worm, but has quickly become one of the most popular baits for a variety of species. It is very simple to use, and often the less you do the better the better the results. This is one bait that catches tons of fish for everyone from beginners to pros.

Flatfish

This lure has a simple appearance, but is deadly in the water. It has been around for over 50 years, and is now available in a wide assortment of colors and sizes. It has an enticing wobble that has seduced countless trout and salmon.

Jitterbug

#
The unique metal plate on the front of the Jitterbug causes it to wobble and leave a trail of bubbles as it is retrieved along the surface. The gentle pops and splashes call the fish up of the depths, and the steady retrieve gives them an easy target to track. This lure is especially good in the late evening just before and just after the sun sets.

Heddon Torpedo

#
Heddon's Toprdeo is an old classic that has fooled many fish since its introduction in the 1920's. There have been many different versions and sizes of the lure, but all feature at least one spinning propeller. This churns the water and is like music to an angler's ears because fish can't resist it.

Mister Twister Curly Tail

#
The original soft plastic grub was the Mister Twister Curly Tail, released in 1973. It features a flat hooked tail that wiggles like it's alive when jigged. The Curly Tail is one of the best multi-species lures ever created, and it can be used to catch almost anything that swims.

Creme Wiggle Worm

The original soft plastic work was released in 1949 by Creme Lure Company. Today, there are hundreds of soft plastic worms on the market in every color under the sun. However, they all owe their existence to the original Creme Wiggle Worm.(worldfishingnetwork)
